  1.                 KOMETOSE
  2.  
  3.      At ease men.  We have been given
  4. the task of destroying the Bremen Oil
  5. works.  As you know, we have been
  6. attempting to take it out with B-17's. 
  7. However, the Luftwaffe has been
  8. defending it with numerous flights of
  9. ME-163s.  Our bombers have been unable
  10. to get through.
  11.      It seems that some genius at TacFHQ
  12. has come up with the scheme of using low
  13. flying P-47s to do what the Big Boys can
  14. not.  To give you enough fire-power to
  15. do the job, we are replacing your drop
  16. tanks with 2000 pounders.  The slipstick
  17. boys assure me that if you spend a
  18. minimal time over target, you will have
  19. enough fuel to get back.
  20.      Blue flight leader, you have also
  21. been outfitted with bazooka rockets. 
  22. You are to take out the Bremen bridge on
  23. the way in.  It is critical to the
  24. success of this mission that you DESTROY
  25. THAT BRIDGE.  G2 is not really sure what
  26. the Jerries are up to here, but they say
  27. destroying the plant alone is
  28. insufficient.
  29.      The most important target on the
  30. site itself is the large blockhouse at
  31. the end of the storage tanks as you fly
  32. over the river.  It is critical to take
  33. out that building.  Whatever secret work
  34. is going on is taking place there.  You
  35. are then to turn around and strafe the
  36. refinery on your second pass.  You are
  37. then IMMEDIATELY to return to base on a
  38. heading of 239.  As you leave, if the
  39. rockets did not take out the bridge, use
  40. your .50s to finish the job.  
  41.      That's it boys--two passes and out. 
  42. Stay on the deck on the way back.  HQ
  43. tells us the Komet is helpless below
  44. 500', and that they won't bother you. 
  45. Under no circumstances are you to mix it
  46. up with them; you don't have the fuel.
  47.      Boys, I know what you think about
  48. this mission.  I can only tell you that
  49. I have never seen the brass so spooked
  50. by a target.  This is something big.  Hit 
  51. it fast, hit it hard, and get the hell 
  52. outta there!
  53.    If you make it back alive, there will 
  54. be promotions all around.
